DO SOMETHING BOLD - This is the challenge Mrs. Dena Schimming, Teen Leadership teacher gave her students in the Spring/Fall of 2008.
She challenged them to think about “doing something bold” for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Her challenge included forming a team of students and staff members to walk 60 miles in 3 days! After receiving approval from the administration to go ahead with her idea, students from all walks of life at Legacy decided to try her challenge. Although only 8 students and 4 adult sponsors could actually participate in the walk November 7th – 9th, ALL Legacy students, staff members, families, and community members were involved in the challenge. Over $30,000.00 (you read that right!) was raised by all of our Legacy community. It could not have been done without the support of the administration, theater department, art department, teen leadership classes, STUCO, Mansfield News Mirror, Fort Worth Star Telegram, Mansfield Rotary Clubs, students/families/staff members who bought t-shirts, cookies, pep rally tickets, concert tickets, and dinner tickets and most of all the breast cancer survivors. Congratulations to the walkers Brittany Bayless, Matthew Broomhall, Jake Edwards, Kat Garza, Alli Jones, Taylor Mohler, Dena and Richard Schimming, Stephanie Shackelford, Tyler Terhall, Marshall White, and Kathy Ziesmer who endured 60 miles of walking and lots of blisters!
